Chapter Sixteen
Amber exhaled, sated. “You’re extremely skilled.”
Jordan wiped her hand on her shirt and lay beside Amber. “You’re extremely flexible.”
“Pilates.”
“Ooh. Hey, are you comfortable?” Jordan asked.
Amber lifted her head, which had been hanging off the beanbag. She scooched down, aligning her face with Jordan’s.
Jordan smiled. “There. Now I can kiss you.”
“So that’s what you wanted.”
“Jordan!” Becca called from downstairs.
“Shit,” Jordan muttered, sat up straight, and frantically tried to acquire the articles of Amber’s ensemble. “Get dressed.”
“Jordan. The handcuffs,” Amber said in a low, agitated voice.
Jordan bounded to her feet. “Where’s the key?”
“It’s in one of the front pockets of my jeans.”
“Jordan! You home?” Becca shouted.
Jordan picked up the denim and ransacked each cavity. She plucked the key from the pants and hobbled behind Amber. “Where’s the hole?”
“Said no lesbian EVER.” Amber chuckled.
“This is not the time, Amber.”
“Look for the widest area of each cuff.”
Jordan yanked Amber’s arms up to get a closer view.
“Ouch!”
“Sorry, sorry, sorry,” Jordan soothed. “Okay! I see it!” She rejoiced and fit the key in.
“Counterclockwise,” Amber said.
Jordan turned the key. “They won’t unlock.”
“Try the other way.”
Using her brawn, Jordan twisted the key in every which way, and then it snapped. Jordan filled with dread. “Noooo.”
“What was that?”
“Alright. Don’t panic.”
“Too late,” Amber said.
“Hello! Jordan?” Becca’s footsteps clacked against the wood.
“The key broke,” Jordan said.
“Whaaat?”
“Plan B.” Jordan dropped Amber’s hands and rounded the beanbag. She bent down, and with brisk efficiency, fastened Amber’s lingerie top, and then pulled the G-string and jeans over Amber’s legs. “All set,” Jordan said breathlessly.
Becca knocked on the door. “Jordie, you in there?”
Amber glanced at Jordan and snickered. “Jordie?”
“Shh!” Jordan put her finger up to Amber’s mouth. “Yeah, Bec. Just a minute.” Jordan got to her feet.
“Jordan! No! We’re in a situation,” Amber said through gritted teeth.
“She’s super nosey. I’ll say hello, she’ll be appeased, and then she’ll go away,” Jordan said and lifted Amber off the floor by holding onto her upper arms. Once Amber was standing, Jordan grabbed a cardigan from her closet and tied it around Amber’s waist to hide the accessory.
“Because that’s slick,” Amber grumbled. “I look like I belong in a country club.”
“You rock that style.” Jordan walked to the entrance and turned to Amber. “Here we go,” she said and opened the door.
“Took you long—” Becca’s eyes flitted beyond Jordan and onto Amber. “Hi. You must be Jordan’s…”
“Tennis mentor,” Amber said.
Jordan shook her head. “This is Amber.”
Becca came into the room and approached Amber. “The Amber. It’s nice to finally put a face to the name.” She stuck out her hand. “I’m Becca.”
Amber stared at Becca’s hand.
Becca raised her eyebrow. “I’m a nurse. I’m sterilized.”
Amber smiled and bowed. “Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
Jordan grimaced.
“Where I’m from, this is our customary salutation,” Amber said.
Becca looked at Jordan, who nodded, and then back at Amber. “Where are you from?” she asked suspiciously.
“California. It’s very posh.”
“What’s going on, you two?” Becca asked, stepping to the side so she could glare at both girls.
“Nothing. Paranoid much?” Jordan asked.
“Okay. Anyways. I was going to order Chinese for dinner.
